A Vision That Started in Portage la Prairie

In the summer of 1990, in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Dr. Dieter Mulitze founded Agronomix Software to continue and expand the software he had originally developed to manage and analyse his own plant breeding research. What began as a practical solution for his own work soon became a pioneering tool for breeders everywhere — software designed by a plant breeder, for plant breeders — with the goal of helping them deliver better varieties and address the urgent challenges of agriculture.

By the spring of 1997, Agronomix relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba. The move positioned the company for growth, deeper connections with the agricultural research community, and greater international engagement. Many of our clients were — and still are — located around the world, making international travel essential to building the relationships that define our success.

From AGROBASE 20 to Genovix: Always at the Cutting Edge

AGROBASE Generation II

Over the past 35 years, Agronomix technology has evolved in step with plant breeding science. Our journey began with AGROBASE 20, followed by AGROBASE 21, AGROBASE 95, AGROBASE 98, and AGROBASE Generation II. Each version brought new capabilities for managing, analyzing, and reporting breeding data — enabling breeders to make better decisions, faster.

Today, our flagship Genovix® platform represents the next generation: a cloud-enabled, integrated solution that connects every stage of the breeding and variety testing process. From experimental design and trait management to data analysis and reporting, Genovix equips breeders and researchers worldwide with advanced tools for success.

Innovation at the Heart of Agriculture

Agriculture is, and always will be, the world’s most important industry. Feeding a growing population, adapting to climate change, and reducing food waste all begin with the work of plant breeders. Our commitment to innovation is driven by this belief — that by equipping breeders with the right tools, we can help address global challenges in food security and sustainability.

We have consistently been at the forefront of plant breeding software, integrating features like bioinformatics, genomic prediction, and cloud-based collaboration to give breeders a competitive advantage.

Strength Through Collaboration – Our Place in Cultura Technologies

Cultura Technologies connects the industry

Since joining Tecnologías de la Cultura in 2022, Agronomix has expanded its opportunities for collaboration. Cultura connects 13 agri-food software companies across the supply chain, enabling knowledge sharing and joint innovation.

Our relationships with AgVision, Primetics, and ExtendAg are especially valuable:

  • AgVision – Their expertise in grain and agribusiness software complements our plant breeding focus, helping us explore new ways to link seed and grain data for a more integrated supply chain.
  • Primetics – Specialising in full agribusiness management, including grain, seed production, and feed software, Primetics offers perspectives that expand our understanding of agriculture’s interconnected sectors.
  • ExtendAg – With their deep experience in produce and fresh market systems, ExtendAg helps us connect plant breeding to downstream market needs, ensuring the right varieties reach the right markets at the right time.

These partnerships strengthen our ability to innovate across the agricultural value chain — something that will only grow in importance over the next 35 years.

Looking Ahead

Dr Dieter Mulitze founded Agronomix in 1990

As we celebrate the Agronomix 35th anniversary, we do so with gratitude — for our clients, our partners, our dedicated team, and the late Dr. Dieter Mulitze, whose vision started it all.

The challenges facing agriculture are great, but so is the potential for innovation and collaboration. From Portage la Prairie to Winnipeg to the world, Agronomix remains committed to advancing plant breeding excellence for decades to come.

Here’s to the next 35 years. 🌱
